In October, a high school freshman at Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tennessee, said her Muslim beliefs were put to the test when commanding officers in the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps program at the school told her she couldn't both march and wear her head scarf in the homecoming parade.
Now after intervention by the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Defense Department reportedly decided it will allow Muslim students participating in the Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (JROTC) to wear headscarves and turbans while in uniform.
Why is it considered intolerant to require that individuals who represent the military or military related programs all look the same? This is one example that shows the extremes to which our nation is going in order to avoid being viewed as offensive.
