Jim opened this edition of Crosstalk with news that the full House of Representatives will soon be voting on legislation that would ban abortions nationwide at 20 weeks of pregnancy. It's called HR-1797, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
Phyllis Schlafly has been a national leader of the conservative movement for decades. She is the president of Eagle Forum. She has testified before more than 50 congressional and state legislative committees on constitutional, national, defense and national issues. She's the author of numerous books and articles and was named one of the 100 most important women of the 20th century by Ladies Home Journal.
The topic of immigration reform is causing the political atmosphere in Washington to get hotter and hotter. A group known as the Gang of 8 has been pushing legislation known as S-744. The problem is, Phyllis believes that these 8 members of the Senate are not playing by the rules. For example, she explained that this 1,000 page piece of legislation was crafted within one day of hearings with no input from the public. In addition she believes it gives no real security; it's just plans and proposals and that no amount of amending can make it workable.
So at this point there appears to be more questions than answers as people seek a solution to the problem of illegal immigration. For instance:
Why is Republican Marco Rubio saying one thing in English and another to Hispanic individuals as he inverts the steps of border security and amnesty?
Do we owe it to illegals to do something for them as President Obama has communicated?
Are the Democrats seemingly so alien friendly because they feel amnesty will bring in new votes for their party?
Will illegals be required to pay any back taxes? How could the IRS even begin to calculate such an amount since many illegals are allegedly paid in cash?
Jim and Phyllis examine these and other immigration related questions on this vital edition of Crosstalk.
