James Lansberry is President of the Alliance of Health Care Sharing Ministries and Vice President of Samaritan Ministries, a free-market healthcare coverage alternative. He speaks out regularly on issues related to healthcare including the economics of healthcare, healthcare public policy, healthcare tax policy and the healthcare industry in general.
A decision from the Supreme Court regarding Obamacare is anticipated this Thursday. According to James, the options for the court include upholding the law in its entirety, overturning the law in its entirety or upholding and striking down parts of the law. A lot hinges upon whether or not the individual mandate holds up.
James noted that Obamacare’s individual mandate for participation ties together what he believes are two very dangerous provisions. One is called Community Rating. This means that everyone who buys health insurance will pay within a certain percentage of what everyone else does for the same policy. Then there’s the Guaranteed Issue Provision. This means that health insurance companies will be forced by law to write you a health insurance policy as soon as you ask for it, regardless of your health history or current health.
Don’t miss this Crosstalk as it analyzes what the Supreme Court must consider as it determines how much control Americans will have over their healthcare.
