This Crosstalk is the second update on Grace’s story, first heard in January of 2022 on Crosstalk.  This latest update includes a brief review which involved drugs that were not authorized to be given to Scott Schara's daughter, 19 year old Grace, who was hospitalized for COVID and eventually died on October 13, 2021.  Another critical factor is the Do-Not-Resuscitate (DNR) order that was placed on her without Scott's permission at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, Wisconsin.

As a result, on April 11th, Scott brought forth a landmark lawsuit (Schara v. Ascension Health et al).  At stake is the issue of informed consent and whether health care workers should have the right to unilaterally, with limited liability, be able to label patients as DNR.  

Scott has been granted a trial date in November of 2024 from the Outagamie County Court system.
